2. Chlorine Tablet
Chlorine is the most commonly
used chemical to disinfect swimming pool water and kill bacteria that can be harmful to
swimmers. Swimming pools must ensure that the water is clean and safe.
There are two common kinds of pool chlorine:
- 1. Solid (chlorine tablets)
- 2. Liquid
Within solids, there are two
types: 1. Dichlor and 2. Trichlor, differ in their stabilization and inclusion of cyanuric
acid, a chemical that helps protect chlorine from sun degradation. Trichlor, which is
available at 90% chlorine and takes a long time to dissolve, contrasts with dichlor, which
contains 60% chlorine and dissolves faster. The larger tablets are available in 1-inch and
3-inch sizes, which dissolve slowly in water and provide a constant release of chlorine. For
equal distribution, users can place them in floating dispensers, skimmer baskets, or
automatic chlorinators. Storing in a cool, dry environment with good ventilation is
suitable.
